For every tree you contribute, I will match with one more (up to 270 trees). Hi friends, salam lestari!
My name is Cahya, and I am celebrating my 27th birthday this February. As I spent most of my days in the past year cooped up at home (like most of you), I've been thinking a lot about nature, my personal impact on it, and how I feel helpless in the face of all the troubles we're facing with the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, etc. To date, almost half of the world's trees have been cleared from human activities. Half the world's tropical forests have been cleared, and every year about 12 million more hectares are lost. The biodiversity loss from the destruction of the ecosystem is immense.
Facing such a gargantuan issue, I felt like whatever I do wouldn't matter.
After reading
The Future We Choose and watching
David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planeton Netflix (they're really good use of your time just staying at home!), though, my perception changed. It made me realize that my personal decisions, no matter how small, would impact the future we are collectively creating. What matters is
acting upon it,with deliberate and directional intent. I can't phrase it better than the authors of the book, so allow me to quote them:
"...'the Garden of Eden is no more'. That is why we now have to create a Garden of Intention - a deliberately regenerative Anthropocene.
...With directional intent, we can shift our aspirations for our current extractive growth to a life-sustaining society of regenerative values, principles and practices."
This encouraged me to move and just
do it already!
Thus, I am inviting you here to join me in this small act of planting trees in
Hutan Desa Bentang Pesisir Padang Tikar, a village forest of 10 villages covering ~76,000 hectares. The mangrove trees function as a habitat for fish spawn, shrimp, and crab, but this area was threatened by deforestation, leading to abrasion and degradation, impacting the marine ecosystem and in turn the livelihoods of the villagers, most of whom are fishermen.
By taking part in restoring & maintaining this forest, you will help safeguard the natural ecosystem, while also supporting the community's livelihood.
For every tree you contribute, I will match with one more(up to 270 trees - no math behind it, just that I'm turning 27!). The cost of planting and maintaining
one tree is Rp25,000.Thank you so much for participating! Feel free to message me on
Instagram.
