Hello Sahabat Alam,
Introduce us, Economix FEB UI. The 18th Economix: Global Economic Challenges aspires to be the medium for students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to present, discuss, and potentially find solutions for the current global economic issues. This year we aim to raise awareness, broaden the discourse of climate crisis over multiple dimensions, and hopefully design the needed framework and potential solutions. Brilliant minds from all over the world have taken part in our global experience, including our main programs and cultural exchange enrichment events.
The Climate crisis has been an international concern for a few decades. Yet, the issue has never been more relevant than in the dawn of this new decade. The recent detailed report from IPCC has stated the staggering impact of global warming of 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius from the pre-industrial level on nature, economic activities, and future generations. As we have passed the one-degree mark, it is reasonable to say that humanity starts to run out of time.
In spite of the alarm, significant changes in business-conduct, nature-preservation, and daily human activities by the global community have not taken place. The current concerning the extent of the climate crisis has stemmed from the ignorance of every stakeholder: the society, businesses, and governments both on a national and international scale since the commencement of the industrial era. Thus, The 18th Economix: Global Economic Challenges aims to raise awareness, broaden the discourse of climate crisis over multiple dimensions, and hopefully design the needed framework for transitions and solutions to mitigate the impact of the climate crisis.
As a concrete action from our events to be able to raise awareness, we plant trees with LindungiHutan.
The amount of donation needed to plant and care for a tree is Rp 60,000/tree.
Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) is an area that becomes a fortress of abrasion and erosion (erosion of soil) in the coastal area of Jakarta. In PIK, there is a mangrove forest tourism area with 99 hectares and 40% of the land in this forest area for the conservation of beautiful and natural mangrove forests. However, Jakarta remains a flood-prone area due to insufficient water absorption and rising sea levels. Therefore, through natural campaigns, LindungiHutan will plant Mangrove Rhizophora trees that can precipitate mud in mangrove trees' roots to prevent seawater intrusion to the mainland. Mangrove Rhizophora has roots that can accelerate the decomposition of organic waste and chemical waste that can pollute the sea. Mangrove planting in this area is a defensive step against the risk of flood disaster in Jakarta.
